Manchester Tourist Information

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Manchester is a huge city that is widely considered as the 'capital of the North'. In all of Europe, it is the fourteenth most populous city and has been voted as the most successful area to run a business (UK Business Leaders, 2006). Manchester is probably the fasted growing city in the country with regards to economic status.

There are many attractions in the city and for a cultural experience of Manchester visitors can go to The Royal Exchange Theatre. It is unique in its design as the stage is circular in shape with seating starting less than nine metres away from the stage. This enables visitors to have an excellent view regardless of seating position. The architectural design of the theatre itself is fascinating as it has a seven sided glass wall resting on pillars made from marble. It has been built over The Cotton Exchange which was historically, globally recognised as the largest commerce space.

Another great place to visit is the Manchester Art Gallery which has won many awards including 'Large Visitor Attraction of The Year' and 'England's Northwest Tourism Awards 2008'. There are a wide range of artwork collections that are showcased throughout the gallery predominantly looking at Fine Art, Decorative Art and Costume. The Fine Art Collection illustrates the work of internationally recognised Pre-Raphaelite alongside British and European paintings from the seventeenth century. The Decorative art gallery focuses on ceramic and glass design whereas the Gallery of Costume highlights historic dress codes, stemming back from the sixteenth century to modern day.

For a historic foundation of Manchester you can go to Castlefield. Located in the South West of the city, Castefield is a heritage park that shows you Manchester's industrial roots. Visitors can explore the canal systems and museums. To accompany this they can take long walks to digest the industrial landscape. Alternatively, you are able to go on boat trips or eat and drink at the waterside pubs available. A large number of buildings have been redeveloped to appear restored and have gone through severe renovation. Castlefield also has an outdoor event arena, which was recently constructed and is situated at the waters edge.

For shopping, visitors can go to The Trafford Centre which has a beautifully designed interior consisting of gold coloured pillars and magnificent chandeliers. The indoor shopping centre has a variety of designer retail stores including Dolce & Gabbana, Fornarina, Dkny, Diesel, Chloe, French Connection, Karen Millen, Marc Jacobs, Max Mara and many more. It also has a large food court housing popular restaurants such as Pizza Express, La Tasca, Nandos, TGI Fridays and Pizza Hut.

Manchester has an exciting and vibrant nightlife with many clubs, bars and cafe where visitors can relax and enjoy a night out. Pure is a large nightclub, which has a capacity for 2,600 people, with two dance rooms playing music from the seventies, eighties and nineties. There are also many bars such as Cocoa Room and newly built sky bar called Cloud 23 which is owned by Hilton and is immediately becoming the best above ground level bar in the city.

Australian Hospitality and Beauty Cheaper Than Ever

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Australia's native history is thought to date back 50 000, when the now Aboriginal people first embarked on the country from the East. Today, despite its vast size, Australia is relatively sparsely populated, which gives it the prime opportunity to showcase its natural beauty without being overcrowded or overdeveloped. This country also benefits from the best of a few worlds - temperate weather, stunning beaches, cosmopolitan metropoles, an array of fascinating wildlife and friendly people.

The Outback is one of the natural wonders that sets Australia apart. Vast expanses of red desert are speckled with novel vegetation and waterholes that resemble oases. The red-hot sun sets against the backdrop of amber dunes in one spectacular instant. The Outback boasts cultural and historical significance as it is crammed with ancient Aboriginal artefacts and not a few rural pubs.

Australian beaches offer a totally different, albeit equally impressive, experience of this continent. With 50 000 kilometres of pristine coastline, it is no wonder that Australia has long been the ideal destination for families and surfers alike. In addition, because of the large expanses of beach-line available, they are not overcrowded. So, whether you are visiting New South Whales, Victoria, Tasmania or Queensland, the beaches are sure to lure you to their white shores day after hot summer's day.

The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant Tour of Melbourne is one of the most popular tourist attractions in this city. This tramcar will transport you through Melbourne to South Melbourne, St Kilda, Prahran and Malvern, all while dining on fine cuisine and enjoying a private look at the world through one-way glass. Luxury and elegance compliment the 4-course lunch, early 3-course dinner or late 5-course dinner. Air-conditioning, tasteful music and silver service is all part of this exclusive package.

The Blue Mountains Deluxe Small Group Eco Tour from Sydney is an 11-hour tour for a small group visiting Sydney. The Blue Mountains are a World Heritage Region, home to rainforests, sandstone cliff faces and sweeping landscapes. The Blue Mountains National Park is the ultimate destination of this excursion. After an early start, you will enjoy breakfast with Koala bears at the Featherdale Wildlife Park, followed by lunch at the Imperial Hotel. The local plant- and animal life continues to amaze explorers, as do the spectacular views of the surrounding area. To finish off a day full of exciting Australian sights and sounds, sip on an ice-cold glass of champagne as wild kangaroos look on curiously.

Because of the array of sights and activities available to visitors in Australia, tourists are guaranteed of a busy schedule. Whether you visit the iconic Sydney harbour, Melbourne's acclaimed shopping Meccas, Adelaide's colonial architecture, or the Gold Coast's 70 kilometres of exquisite beaches, you will be sure to return home with memories and photographs to last a lifetime.

The credit crunch does not mean you can save while touring any country and give up on luxuries you're used to. Enjoy the friendly people and great service the world still has to offer!

Alaska – See what your missing out on!

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Like any new town or city you may be unfamiliar with, there is always going to be a transition period to get to know your way around, meet the locals, and find your place within your new society.

Whether your looking to meet new singles, needing a lifestyle change, job re-location or somewhere for you and your family to embark on a new beginning, Alaska will bring you an amazing new life in every way, shape and form. A general overview of Alaska, and some basic statistics will give you a general idea of the look and feel this amazing part of the world offers.

Juneau is Alaska's capital (Alaska's population is around 686000), however Juneau cannot be accessed by road. Sou'-east Alaska is sandwiched between the robust coastal chain of mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Entry is only by means of air or sea. Cruise ships transport thousands of visitors to southeast Alaska and Juneau daily between May through to September. The weather in Juneau and the southeast panhandle can be depicted as cooler and wetter. Southeastern Alaska (The last Frontier) encounters plenty of downfall in the form of rain, snow, and fog. This is how it appears much of the time.

Downtown Juneau is compact and is easily able to get around by foot, however higher up fourth Street it gets extremely hilly. Virtually all locals travel by car or by the local bus service. In the summertime , Alaska enjoys drawn-out daytime throughout the state. Alaska's wildlife is among the most stunning in the world and will leave you with unforgettable memories. From the bears of Hyder to the American eagle of Haines, the whales of Frederick, Sound to the birds of the Stikine River, to the Inside Passage Segment of the Alaska Coastal Wildlife.

Alaska Fishing is a fisherman's wildest dream come true and simply offers the most fabulous fishing on earth. Alaska's oceans, rivers, and lakes are abundant with immense runs of record breaking Salmon, Rainbow Trout, beautiful Arctic Char, barn door Halibut and many other challenging sport fish.

On the social side of things, how many singles out there fancy getting together for a social outing? Before you get too excited, this part of the world is not party central, but its easy to chat with the locals and meet new people.

Far and away the most common with locals is The Alaskan Bar, listen to music and drink an Alaskan beer with an Alaskan. A bit harsh looking but a cool place to hangout and chat.

Other establishments we have reviewed include: Island Pub in Douglas. Squire's eat out in Auke Bay for a rustic experience.

Visit the popular Alaskan Brewery to sample the brews. Pel Meni! Pel Meni dishes up genuine Russian Dumplings. Forget ordering from an extensive menu as Pel Meni dumplings are all they serve. it's humble and not the most flash place on earth, but its a recommended eatery while in Juneau.

Monday's @ RAW at the Alaskan: Who would have conceived anywhere in Juneau could be so busy at the start of a working week? How bout some karaoke on Wednesday night @ Sandbar? This joint is extremely active on Wednesdays and the restaurant's open for all those late eaters. Triangle hosts Trivia on Wednesdays and Fridays. Thursdays: Rendezvous holds a rock, paper, scissors competition. Dancing on Fridays and Saturdays? Looking to get down and groovy? At the Imperial Bar, Marlintini's Lounge and the Viking's back room you will find dance/R&B/hip-hop music.

Alaska will leave you feeling with a sense of total relaxation and adventure at the same time. A destination that must be seen to be believed so you can capture this beautiful world within our world.

You Need To Stay Calm On International Flights

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Each day, a large number of American citizens hit the sky. While many are only traveling from one state to another, there are some who are traveling from one country to another. If you are one of those individuals, you may be nervous, rightfully so. If you are a first-time flyer or if you have a problem with flying in general, it is advised that you learn to calm your nerves as much as possible. Although it may seem impossible to do, there are a number of benefits to doing so, namely for your own safety.

Unfortunately, in today's society it seems as if air travel has gotten a little bit out of control. Airport security, airline personnel, as well as other passengers, are all concerned with their safety. While it is important to be concerned with your safety and the safety of others, it is seem as if what it takes to make everyone feel unsafe has also gotten a little bit out of control. If you are on an airplane, especially on an international flight, and someone carelessly mentioned the word bomb, your flight would probably land at the nearest airport. The same can be said for uncooperative passengers. That is why it is extremely important that you remain calm, aboard an airplane, at all times.

Many travelers are nervous about flying, all on its own, however, others display a wide array of emotions for other reasons. One of those reasons is dissatisfaction. On international flights, like all other flights, you will find that your actions are limited in the air. There are only certain times when you can remove your seatbelts, use the bathroom, or use your electronic equipment. If these times do not meet with your schedule, you are advised to just deal with it. Becoming upset or hysterical will not accomplish anything for you; expect for maybe a date with local authorities at your next stop.

One of the number one reasons why trouble begins on a plane, even if is innocent enough as being scared to fly, is because travelers do not know the consequences of their actions. A nervous, jittery, or confrontational passenger is what flight attendants are taught to look for. Although you may not be a terrorist, you may be displaying noticeable symptoms. In the event that this does happen, your plane will likely be rerouted, where you and other passengers will be met with airport security or local authorities. Depending on what your actions involved, you may be charged with disorderly conduct or something similar. Essentially, this means that it is extremely important that you remain calm at all times.

In addition to remaining calm aboard an international flight, it is also advised that you remain calm at the airport. All international airports are on high alert. This means that they will not only be looking for prohibited items, but suspicious travelers as well. If you are nervous about flying, you need to think of something enjoyable; it may help to calm your nerves. If you are asked to do something by airport security, such as step aside, you are advised to do so. If you do not, it is likely that a confrontation could brew. Starting a confrontation in airport is just as serious as starting one in the air. In fact, you will likely be met with the same consequences, as mentioned above.

Although it is important to know what could happen to you if you fail to remain clam in an international airport or aboard an international flight, is it is also important to work on ways to stay calm. Whether it involves thinking happy thoughts, bringing along headphones, or by taking long deep breaths, it is advised that you develop multiple ways to keep yourself calm and level headed. If you fail to do so, you may regret your decision to fly for the rest of your life and that is something that shouldn't have to happen.

Bed And Breakfast Owners Understand Tourism

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

When was the last time you stayed at a bed and breakfast (b&b) on your vacation? If the answer is never, I am about to introduce you to one of the most underutilized vacation resources. Otherwise, I am about to tell you how you can get the most out of your vacation, by asking a few simple questions.

What Is A Bed And Breakfast?

For those readers who know exactly what a Bed And Breakfast is, please skip this section. You may be surprised that not everyone knows why a Bed And Breakfast would be better than a hotel room.

In the very simplest of terms, a bed and breakfast proprietor is usually someone who bought a big house and converted it into a full service hotel.

Most bed and breakfasts have one-, two- or three-bedrooms for rent. All rooms have either a private bath, private hot tub or both. Most b&b's have a big screen hdtv in their rooms, with DVD players and movies to watch.

Bed n Breakfast proprietors provide three meals per day - often provided by a chef, either in the guest's room or in the dining room.

Pampered Like Royalty

For the average b&b guest, there is no reason to ever leave the bed and breakfast to enjoy ones' self. Many couples choose the b&b vacation, to lock themselves away from the world outside and to be pampered in the manner of royalty.

But other couples want to get out and explore the world around them, while on vacation.

As a general rule, the bed and breakfast proprietor has a finger on the pulse of tourism, to a greater degree than any other person involved in the tourism industry.

The big city-sponsored tourism websites tend to only highlight the big traffic attractions that will bring the most people to their town on vacation.

City-sponsored travel websites are more focused on bringing more tax dollars to their city, so they are not going to pay much attention to those private affairs where only a dozen or so guests are expected to attend.

Bed and breakfast proprietors on the other hand tend to keep an eye open for smaller events that their guests would enjoy. Since B&B guests typically want to be pampered, B&B owners network with other small business owners to find out about those under-the-radar events that they believe their guests will appreciate and enjoy.

Examples Of Under-The-Radar Festivities

Some of the larger Bed and Breakfast establishments will feature wine-tasting parties for local vineyards. Generally, the only way that you will hear about a wine-tasting party is to call the vineyard in question, or to ask your bed and breakfast host.

Local art studios are always looking for ways to get guests into the building to view their art. Often, art studios host a party to show off local artists or other art collections. Art museums can typically turn to the city-sponsored travel websites to get the word out about their showing, but the smaller venues typically need to network with locals to attract an audience. The local B&B proprietors are usually one of the first contacts on the art studio managers' calling list.

Charity events are a frequent attraction, which pampers all who come to visit. Very likely, your b&b proprietor will be the first to know about upcoming charity events and the benefits that attendees will receive, if they attend.

Private tours are another tourist attraction that usually escape notice of the larger tourism destinations, which your bed and breakfast proprietor will know about. On a recent b&b excursion, my wife and I were told of a private tour of a local haunted house. We enjoyed the haunted house tour immensely. Of course, a midnight tromp through any big old house might be scary, if you had never been there before.

A friend recently attended a bed and breakfast in Texas, and his host pointed out that the local town was having a parade that day. Had his b&b host never told him, he would never had known. He and his wife said they very much enjoyed the parade and appreciated the recommendation.

Extra B&B Attractions

If you are into the cowboy experience, several bed and breakfasts around the country offer horseback riding to their guests. In the morning, the horses will be brought in from the stables to take as many guests as would like to go for a ride through the nearby countryside.

A bed and breakfast I had visited last year said that they held a fashion show one weekend of every month and invited us to attend. Of course, that is not my cup of tea, but others might find that very appealing. Of course, it should be noted that the reason I was at that b&b that weekend was to attend a seminar on a subject in which I am very interested.

Hands Down, Bed And Breakfast Always Beat Hotels

When vacationing, the bed and breakfast experience will always top the hotel experience. Since learning about Bed And Breakfasts and Vacation Home Rentals, I have given up on hotels entirely, except for those unique situations where the accommodation is only needed for a few hours sleep and a shower.

For a planned vacation, I choose between a Bed And Breakfast and a Vacation Home Rental.

When I am traveling only with my wife or by myself, I usually choose the Bed And Breakfast, so that we can be pampered like royalty during our stay.

When I take the whole family on vacation, I choose a Vacation Home Rental. When traveling with the kids, I have access to a full house, with many bedrooms and a fully stocked kitchen, for the length of my vacation.

Never again will I try to stuff my family of five into a cramped hotel room for a week or weekend. And never again will I increase the cost of my travel by having to take every meal in a restaurant. At the B&B, we are served our meals, and at the vacation home rental, we have a fully stocked kitchen enabling us to prepare all of our meals as if we were at home.

Improve Your Travel Experience - Ask Questions

So the next time you go on vacation, ask your bed and breakfast proprietor about those under-the-radar tourist travel ideas that only they will know about. You might be surprised to learn something new and exciting.

Travel Health Insurance – Don’t Leave Home Without it!

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

The Challenge

Imagine for a moment that you and your family have embarked on a long-awaited and planned for vacation to Europe. You finally arrive at your destination and excitedly set out on a day tour of your first city. During the day, one of your family members falls ill, or trips and breaks a leg.

Do you have any idea how much it will cost for an ambulance trip in this foreign country? How about doctor's fees, hospital services and medications?

Every year, thousands of travelers are left in just such situations without adequate medical coverage to pay for the emergency they find themselves in.

When planning a trip or vacation, many people neglect to spend the little extra money and time to ensure themselves the peace of mind of having travel insurance. This leads to the (unfortunately) common scenario of travellers who find themselves ill or hurt in a foreign country and unable to afford the appropriate care.

When you are visiting foreign places there are often aspects you will be unfamiliar with, such as terrain, animals, plants and insects. Add to this possible difficulties communicating because you don't speak the language or understand the local customs, and you could be setting yourself up for a difficult time should anything unexpected happen.

Suggestions

Like any good insurance product, the premium is always worth the coverage in case of needing it, and is often overlooked by consumers.

Most people have an 'it won't happen to me' complex - don't be most people!

Travel insurance, also known as travel accident insurance or travel health insurance, should include at least the following:

  • Any charges for ambulance services to the nearest hospital
  • Hospital accommodations as needed
  • Any laboratory testing and x-rays
  • Doctors, surgeons and nurses' fees
  • Emergency prescribed medications

In general, be sure and ask for coverage which cover at least the above-mentioned. Additional questions to ask include:

  • Specific amounts of coverage and what is excluded, if anything
  • Is there a deductible and how much?
  • Are sports related injuries covered?
  • Are any medical emergencies due to pre-existing conditions covered or excluded?
  • Is every member of your family or travel group covered in the plan?
  • Is there a provision for costs incurred if a flight is missed and a more expensive flight has to be booked?
  • What about missed work due to illness or accident?
  • Is the cost of returning the sick or injured person home covered?

Medical emergencies can be expensive no matter where they occur. Travel health insurance is an effective and cost-efficient way to secure peace of mind so you can go have some fun!
