The village of Haydon Bridge is built round a bridge on both sides of the South Tyne in Northumberland. The early bridge was destroyed in the Tyne flood of 1773 but was rebuilt. The traffic is now carried on a modern structure a short distance downstream.
A market was once held at Old Haydon but was broken up in 1835. It was however the centre of a mining and industrial area. The Haydon Bridge Iron Works were established in 1843 and belonged to William Benson of Allerwash House. He employed many men here and at his works at Fourstones and Prudham. Three miles north east of Haydon Bridge were two noted lead mines at Settlingstones and Stonecroft which employed many men and boys. Three miles south west were the Langley Smelt Mills.
The Old Church is located about half a mile north where the medieval village once lay. Its nave was pulled down in 1795 and the stone used to build a new church in the middle of the village. The chancel fell to ruin but was rebuilt around 1882. It was first built about 1190 with a chantry chapel added to the south in the 14th century. Many of the stones in the building are of Roman origin taken from one of the camps nearby. At the end of the chancel is a triplet of small lancet windows separated by round pillars. At the east end of the chapel is a beautiful window with delicate tracery. In the floor on the south of the sanctuary is a fine monumental stone inscribed with leaded letters to the memory of John de Elrington alongside a carved sword and a floral cross. The font of the church was once a Roman alter.
The church in the village, dedicated to Saint Cuthbert was built in 1796. It is comprised of a small square tower with a pagoda-shaped spire. Over the porch is a square sun dial with the inscription - non nisi caelesti radio (not save by a ray from heaven do I tell the time).
A grammar school was established at Haydon Bridge in 1685 and endowed by the Rev. John Shaftoe. Here any boy or girl within the chapelry of Haydon Bridge an Woodsheels could claim to be taught free, English grammar, writing, geography, mathematics and the art of navigation. For an additional penny per quarter instruction in Latin and Greek was given.
The most famous person associated with Haydon Bridge was undoubtedly Thomas Spence. He was born on the Newcastle Quayside in 1750 and died in 1814 in London. The Dynamotion Hall has an exhibition of giant robotic insects, interactive exhibits, butterfly corner and aquaria. This is a large spiral shaped hall that offers a deep understanding on certain scientific phenomenon. Visitors can create music on the piano floor and virtual harp as well as make large dishes float on air. Exciting exhibits like a working tornado, aqua mobile and energy ball would keep people immersed on the discovery processes.
The hall also showcases robotic insect having 28 static models and 23 large animated models of insects. The exhibition provides information about different insects like the housefly, wasp, mosquito and beetle as well as the termite, cricket, spider and many more.
The Science Park provides free choices of learning outdoor exhibits. It includes a Children's Play Corner, Gravity Coaster, Road Train and a Maze. This is along with the Caterpillar Ride, Monorail Cycle, Butterfly Nursery and Musical Fountain. This fountain dances to the music with colored water jets.
Convention Center
The Convention Center has a Grand Theater that can occupy 2,232 seats. It also has a seminar building having 11 halls with a 15 to 100 seating capacity. Luxury Travel Founder and CEO Pham Ha said there were several constraints on tourism training which hindered progression.
These included a lack of up-to-date facilities and equipment, limited practical skills of teachers and poor collaboration between training institutions and the industry.
"Four elements – occupational skills and knowledge, good service, foreign language skill and reasonable allocation of labor among areas – would be crucial to meet the critical demands of the tourism industry" he said.

Sales Manager Hung Nguyen said the company has to spend at least 6 months conducting on the job training courses for new staff.
"We spend the equivalent amount of time to inspect destinations in order to help them to become a truly legitimate luxury travel advisors and they are confident to sell our luxury tourism products to discriminating travellers"
The company said that students from tourism schools are not qualified to work after graduating, with many having only a basic knowledge of tourism and lack of English skills.
"Vietnam's tourism sector will be at risk of lagging far behind other regional countries' and find it difficult to maintain a high growth rate if breakthrough measures are not taken to generate enough qualified personnel" the company said.

Over 50 burial sites have been excavated at the Machu Picchu site, and as a lot of female bones were originally found it was initially speculated that virgin sacrifices may have taken place there. However, whilst human sacrifice could have been an integral part of the Inca religion and performed at major festivals it was more likely that young children were sacrificed and a number of children's mummified remains have been found on the Inca trail to Machu Picchu. Further analysis of the bones actually found at Machu Picchu's famous citadel show that many of the women had actually had children, and male remains have also since been found on the grounds of Machu Picchu. The virgin reference most probably came about due to the young, female priests sometimes known as 'The Virgins of the Sun' who were thought to teach at Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu's Population Were Massacred by the Spanish Army
This theory can be completely excluded; although historians are still not entirely sure why the Incas left Machu Picchu they know that the settlement was not visited by the Spanish. For a start, there are no signs of Spanish settlement on the Inca trail. There is also no destruction to the area which could have been caused by military force and the area is extremely well conserved. It is thought that the Spanish would have had an extreme disadvantage if they planned to massacre the population of Machu Picchu as the Inca trail trek to the top would have left them vulnerable. All these reasons as well as the fact that none of the bodies found at the site appeared to have died as a result of violence completely rules out a massacre by the Spanish army.
Inter-tribal warfare
Why or how the Incan population disappeared from Machu Picchu is something that is still disputed amongst historians. One of the theories is that another tribe killed the Inca population of Machu Picchu. This is a possibility because we know that when emperor Huayana Capac defeated the Caranques, he ordered the death of all the remaining members of their community. However, we also know that the bodies found at Machu Picchu rule out the idea of death by violence.
So whilst we often hear tales of violence and massacre leading to the termination of Machu Picchu as an Inca ceremonial centre, it is more likely that the inhabitants of Machu Picchu perhaps died from an epidemic such as syphilis or malaria, or simply abandoned the site on the death of it's creator,
Whatever the reason for abandonment the magnificent uninhabited Inca city then became 'lost' to the outside world, with only a few indigenous Quechua people aware of it's existence until explorer Hiram Bingham stumbled upon a jungle-clad Machu Picchu in 1911.
