The River (Brisbane River) runs right through the city and leads to Moreton Bay. The curves of the river provide numerous locations for waterside activities and the most breathtaking views. The water is calm because of the barrier to the Pacific Ocean, created by Srtadbroke and Moreton Islands. The many hills provide beautiful backdrop views and fresh clean air to breathe.
Brisbane has matured since beginning life as a convict settlement in 1825, playing host to the commonwealth Games in 1982 and the World Expo in 1988.The population has increased at a rapid rate since the late 1980s "it currently stands nearly at 2 million, large enough to give Brisbane a vibrant big city feel, small enough to make it community-focused and easy to get around. New developments have created pleasant recreational spaces, such as the Roma Street Parkland, and easier ways to get around, such as the City Cat catamarans that speed up and down the river.
