The Best Things Of Colwyn Bay
July 2nd, 2009 | by |Residing within a secluded enclove on the beautiful North Wales coastline, Colwyn Bay is the second biggest town in North Wales, with just under 30,000 people. It's primary source of income for the town is with tourism, and as a result it can be a great place to visit on a day out.
Attractions wise there are a couple, but what Colwyn Bay lacks in quantity, it more than makes up in quality. The first is the Welsh Mountain Zoo. Beginning life in the mid 1960's, the zoo has grown into one of the UK's premier zoos, with continued and sustained growth from the very beginning. Even now it remains one of the top 10 things to do in North Wales. Developments have included in recent years the Jungle Adventureland, European Otter Enclosure, Chimpanzee World & Chimp Encounter, Children's Farm, Bear Falls & Golden Eagles. The zoo has a very successful breeding programme, breeding the very first Bactrian Camel & Flamingos in Wales. The zoo also specialises in chimpanzees & South American birds such as condors.
The other stunning attraction in Colwyn Bay is the 2 mile long beach that stretches from Old Colwyn, through the centre of Colwyn Bay, to Rhos On Sea. The beach actually continues further onto Angel Bay in Penrhyn Bay, but it is broken along the way, so locals assume that's the end of the beach. Walking along the beach also has it's fair share of history, including the Victoria Pier (at timme of writing, it's undergoing some rennovation work). Rhos on Sea also has old buildings such as St. Trillo's church and sites associated with Ednyfed Fychan - the Welsh general who famously decapitated 3 English Lords. So exploring the Colwyn Bay coastline is not only pleasurable, but educational too.
Colwyn Bay recently has increased its business exploits, with a number of large offices and business accommodation dotted around the town, this has seen a growth in the IT, business services & other similar industries. This will ensure that Colwyn Bay will continue it's growth long into the future.
